Do You Still Look Like Your Profile Photo?

When online networking feels like a scene from Back To The Future!

Let me know if this has happened to you too…

I was at a local networking meeting, and after having a lovely conversation with someone I’d just met, I went back to my office to connect with them online. I searched for the name on the business card and clicked on what I thought was her profile, but after quickly glancing at the photo I thought ‘no that’s not her’ and kept searching. After exhausting all other options, I circled back to the first profile to double check, and sure enough it was her - only 10 years ago!

Of course you want to keep that awesome photo from a time when you felt vibrant and looked young, and you were defying gravity at every angle. But in business, it can be very disconnecting. Relationships and authenticity are a big part of business and it all starts with your visual brand.

Your headshots and brand photos help to create a human connection long before you actually meet someone. And, as in my previous story, they can also help retain human connection online after you’ve met.

Regularly updating your photos helps to strengthen that connection, allowing you to stay relatable and authentic, and your audience actually loves it! The best engagement I get on my social media is when I update my profile photo - greying hair and all!

As a woman in her 50s, I totally understand that when you get a photo you like, you want to keep it as your profile pic until the day you die. Ageing sometimes isn’t fun! And I’ve tried to fight it for many years. But it’s not going away. Now I say, let’s just embrace who we are at every stage of our journey and celebrate it with a photo!
