Get More Engagement with your Social Media Content
It can be so frustrating spending hours on your marketing campaigns, only to hear crickets!
You have an amazing product and a stellar service offering! So why aren’t more people seeing your posts and engaging with your offer?
The digital space is extremely noisy, and people are busy. If your marketing designs are confusing and difficult to read, they’ll just keep scrolling - people don’t have the time or the mental bandwidth to figure out what you’re trying to sell.
By using your visual communication effectively to make it as easy as possible to understand your brand story, you’ll remove any unnecessary barriers that would othewise stop people from taking action on your message.
As a brand designer and photographer, here are my tops tips to help elevate your brand and get the engagement you deserve….
Connect instantly with authentic brand photos
Without a doubt, the best engagement I have on social media is when I post a photo of myself. Not because I’m anything special, but the people following me - friends, clients and colleagues - genuinely like to see me. Just like I genuinely like to see photos of them on social media. It’s the virtual equivalent of bumping into a friend in the supermarket and you’re so glad to see them that you stop for a chat.
More people than usual react to the photo post and they also leave lovely comments. My engagement goes up and the post is shown to more people.
A fun selfie can be great for this, but if you’d like to create a library of confidence-boosting brand photos, book a call!
Professional presentation
Even though we’ve been told not to judge a book by it’s cover, I’m afraid to say that’s exactly what people do.
If your marketing designs look amateur, then your audience will assume that your product or service is also amateur and it may cause them to hesitate when deciding to buy.
With a few professional design tricks, you can still DIY your graphics, but it will give people the confidence to read your post, click on your link and buy your awesome product.

Have a clear message that’s easy to read
People have limited bandwidth, so in order to have them spend the time reading your marketing graphics and taking action on your post, your message must be super clear and super easy to read.
By designing your graphics with text that’s short & punchy, large enough to read easily, and in a colour that contrasts off the background, people are more likely to engage because they can actually read it!
One call to action (CTA)
Often I see social media posts that list all the ways possible that someone can contact the business - email, phone, website, sometimes even an address!
By adding too many methods of contact in a small area, not only does it force you to use a font size that is small and frustrating for the reader, but it confuses your audience on how next to proceed.
Use ONE method of contact that makes sense to the platform you’re speaking on so that it’s easy for people to take action.
For example…
Instagram - DM me for details (or) click the link in my bio
LinkedIn - Message me for details (or) click to link to my website
Printed Flyer - Scan the QR code for more details (with an accompanying phone number for those without access to digital devices.)
Signage - Short, easy to remember website link that people can recall later (as they are probably driving by)
Time is in short supply as it is when you’re a business owner, so wasting it on projects that get little-to-no results just isn’t an option.
By using your visual communication effectively, you’ll see more people engage with your marketing and take action of your offers.
